I don’t know about you, but when this time of year rolls around and all my friends' social media pages start gravitating towards Indio, California, I get jealous. Really jealous. In fact, after some soul-searching, self reflection, and a few consultations, I realized I’m prone to a dangerous condition: Coachenvy.

Terrible, I know. But I’m not the only one. You may also suffer from Coachenvy if any of the following apply to your recent daily habits:

  • You furiously scroll past your friends’ Coachella posts without even considering double tapping
  • You suddenly claim to hate the artists headlining this year, even though they’re in all your playlists
  • You find yourself telling people that musical festivals like Lollapalooza and Outside Lands are, like, way better than Coachella

Don’t fear, you’re not alone. We might not be doctors here at Everyday California, but our best and brightest got together to form the cure to Coachenvy. And it’s simply my civic duty to share it with you.

So toss out your glow-sticks and battery powered fans, here are the 6 best ways to cure Coachenvy this weekend:

1. Go to the Desert

One of the most unique aspects of Coachella is that it takes place in Indio, California, aka the middle of the desert. But if Coachella isn’t in you budget this year, then a great alternative is a good ol’ fashioned desert trips with you buddies. Visit the sand dunes, Anza-Borrego, Joshua Tree, or, if you want to retaliate with some great non-Coachella Instagram posts, Salvation Mountain.

2. Go to the Ocean

Soak up the sun, catch a few waves, and enjoy the best of California’s coast. Fresh air paired with a swim are an excellent way to push Coachella out of your mind. Plus, there’s a long list of ways to have an awesome time out on the water. If you can make it to San Diego, we invite you to come hang out with us!

3. Go on a Hike

Nothing clears your envy (and your sinuses) like a nice hike. No matter where you are in California, there’s almost always an awesome hiking destination nearby. If you want to make a full weekend hiking adventure, then Yosemite is the place to be.

4. Go Shopping

Just because you’re not at Coachella doesn’t mean you can’t embrace the unique brand of California fashion that comes out of the desert every April. Hit up your favorite stores this weekend and find an outfit that fits your brand of crazy, or maybe grab something cozy or casual from us!

5. Go Watch a New Series

One of my go-to weekend cures for any ailment. Call up a friend or two, shut the blinds, turn off the lights, jump on Netflix, Hulu, or even bust out the DVDs and enter a whole new world for as many episodes as you can stand (before your brain turns to mush).

6. Don’t Go Anywhere

That’s right, one of the best cures to Coachenvy is a few days of rest and relaxation. Sleep in until noon, walk to your local playground, and call your Mom to say “I love you.” Sometimes that’s all you really need.

Personally, I’ll be spending some time at the beach, hanging out in the sun and swimming around the ocean (the salty water will hide my jealous tears well). What are you doing this weekend to cure your Coachenvy? Leave a comment below!
