Huntington Harbour Kayak Tour

Your journey begins at our newest location in Sunset Beach, a laid-back seaside enclave at the northern edge of Huntington Beach, known for its small-town charm and wide sandy beaches. Just steps from the sand, you'll check in and gear up for a 90-minute guided kayak experience.

Once on the water, you'll explore Huntington Harbour, a unique coastal community made up of five man-made islands and over 15 miles of calm canals. The harbor is protected from ocean swell and restricted to a 5 mph speed limit for all boats, making it one of the safest and most peaceful waterways in Southern California for kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, and swimming.

Unlike the surf-heavy stretches of Huntington Beach, the harbour offers a glassy, lagoon-like environment ideal for families, couples, first-time kayakers, or anyone wanting a relaxing day on the water. During summer, the water in the harbour is typically 3–4°F warmer than the ocean, making it a comfortable year-round destination.

As you paddle past luxury waterfront homes, lush landscaping, and charming bridges, your guide will share the story of the harbor’s development—from former wetlands to a mid-century marina community with a rich maritime culture. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for native wildlife like great blue herons, egrets, sea lions, and even the occasional dolphin.

This tour offers the perfect blend of nature, history, and SoCal lifestyle, just 30 minutes from Disneyland and under an hour from downtown Los Angeles.

Before we hit the water, your experienced guide will teach you the basics of stand up paddle boarding and water safety on land. You'll learn water safety basics, how to pivot and turn efficiently, how to paddle in reverse, and how to safely fall off and get back onto your board with ease. Whether you’re brand new to stand up paddle boarding or just looking to brush up on technique, this quick intro will have you feeling confident before your tour.

From there, we’ll head out for a 90-minute guided stand up paddle board tour through Huntington Harbour, where you'll be guided through a peaceful network of man-made islands and scenic canals, and underneath low-clearance bridges. This area is one of the safest and most tranquil spots in Southern California for stand up paddle boarding.

Unlike the windier and wave-heavy coastline of Huntington Beach, the harbour offers a more relaxed environment ideal for families, large groups, or anyone seeking a fun, low-stress paddle. The water here is often 3–4°F warmer than the ocean, especially during the summer months.

As we cruise past yachts, parks, and small beaches tucked between waterfront homes, your guide will share stories of the harbor’s transformation and the local history—from natural wetlands to a mid-century marina community rich with history and maritime culture. Keep your eyes open for local wildlife like egrets, sea lions, herons, and on rare occasions the occasional dolphin.

Huntington Harbour Tours FAQ

We've had tons of people who have never kayaked before and don't know how to swim that had amazing experiences. However, if your activity includes snorkeling, then by state regulations you do need to be comfortable in the water.
We use tandem sit-on-top kayaks because they are safer and more fun!
The weight limit for each kayak is 425lbs / 193kg. If the combined weight of you and your partner is close to 415lbs, we recommend purchasing two (2) single kayaks instead of a tandem kayak.
The age restriction for kayaking is 5 years and older.
No experience is required to come on a tour! We’ve had everyone from children to senior citizens who are first time kayakers come out and have a blast on one of our kayak adventures.
One of our experienced and highly trained guides will lead you and your group on the tour. Each guide has extensive knowledge of the La Jolla Ecological Reserve and La Jolla Caves and is trained in water safety, First Aid and CPR.

  • Wonderful experience!
2 person kayak rental which was a great deal for a wonderful experience! Short walk from the store to the beach. The coves and cliffs were gorgeous, and you can get decently close to lots of sea lions on the shore.
