Ok go... For a week I've been sitting around tossing a ball up in the air, surfing, doing yoga, soul searching, running and thinking about how the hell I'm going to start a blog? How do you start a blog? I think people want to here what's it's like to chase the dream and live outstide of the cubilcle and here I am doing it! So I'm just going to start writing. Right here, right now.
My whole life I've been searching for happiness and I think I found it! Here at OEX, with all my friends, I've been given the opportunity to run an action water sports company like no other. It's hard to explain what goes on in the mind of a 20-something trying to run a business (and take over the world) but with this blog I hope to take everyone on this crazy journey with me.
Let's start with the basics. My name is Christopher David Lynch. I'm 26 years-old and I'm a complete adrenaline junkie, world traveler and new small business owner.
That's me to the left in Cosmopolitan magazine. Seriously... My sister nominated me and I just became California's most eligible bachelor. I'm still not quite sure what all is entails but it's been a fun ride so far! Click on the pic and you can check out the article online.
As luck would have it I became a partner at OEX Dive & Kayak La Jolla last year through a serious of random events. I graduate from San Diego State University with a degree in International Economics in 2008 with an eye on the finance world. I want to make a few million by the time I was 30 and was ready to pack up and head for Wall Street. Then all of the sudden the world turned against me. After the market crashed I was denied a full-time position at the hedge fund I had been working for and every broker on the street told me they were firing, not hiring.
With no where else to go I packed up and moved to Hollywood. I was off to become the next best thing. After a couple years of flondering around LA I found myself in a few small roles but never found my "big break." Hollywood was eating me alive when my Dad asked me to come back to Northern California and help him sell his financial advising company. While there I could make a little money, study for the GMAT and prepare for Graduate School.
Then what happen can only been chalked up to fate. I had been at home working for my Dad for 2 weeks when I got a call from Mike. Mike and I have been friends for almost a decade now and had worked at OEX while I was still at SDSU. He wanted to know if I'd be interested in investing in OEX and taking over the La Jolla location. Perfect timing. I didn't really know what I wanted to do with my life until this opportunity landed in my lap.
As luck would have it the money I would be recieving from the buyout of my Dad's business would be enough for me to invest in OEX and I would finish up working in Nor Cal just one month after we took over operations at OEX La Jolla!
So that's now I go here and no one knows what the future holds. We're working tirelessly to make OEX not only a destination but a globally recognized name in Action Sports Retail!
