La Jolla’s Ecological Reserve is the premiere snorkeling spot in California -- that’s because of the local sea life. This is one of the few places in the world where the sea life has safely socialized with humans for over a hundred years. Sea lions will swim right up to you. Their curious and silly nature is clearly evident as they mimic you. Leopard sharks (which are completely harmless,) swim within feet of you along the ocean's bottom.
To fully interact with all the amazing sea life in the Ecological Reserve, our kayak and snorkel tour is the only way to go. This tour is one of our favorites, so expect a senior tour guide to give you an unforgettable experience swimming with the leopard sharks, sea lions, bat rays and shovel nose guitar fish.
You’ll start by paddling out in your kayak with our guides through the surf and then on past the Marine Room into the Seven Sea Caves where you’ll anchor before diving in and snorkeling through the magical caves. After interacting with all the wonderful sea life in the caves, we’ll hop back into our kayaks and head back to the shore, hopefully catching a wave to ride in! If you’re up to it, you can keep snorkeling the shores for another two hours after this two hour kayak tour.
Being able to swim is recommended for the kayak and snorkel tour and all participants must be at least 8 years old. Please be inside the shop 30 minutes prior to your tour time!
